Description
Rusty Goat is a soft, supple Aussie red full of ripe juicy fruit from the redoubtable 'Mr Medals' Sam Trimboli. He is chief winemaker at the Warburn Estate in Riverina, New South Wales, which was founded nearly 40 years ago by Italian emigrants Antonio and Angelina Sergi.

Since then, the property has grown and with it, its reputation. "Watch for Warburn Estate - a cascade of richly deserved Gold medals" (James Halliday); "the Warburn range knows no weakness" (Stuart Gregor).

This red is made from a classic Bordeaux blend of plump, plummy Merlot and cassis-rich Cabernet Sauvignon. It takes its name from the goats kept by the Sergi family, the coats of which take on a rusty hue swept off the dusty red soil of the terra rossa land (think Ayres Rock) around the winery. This soil is ideal for the vines as it gives them the great drainage they need. The grapes are also left on the vine longer to achieve maximum ripeness for more concentrated fruit.
