Description
"Spain's greatest Rioja" … says Robert Parker, indeed, the special project was conceived in the 80s "to make one of the world's greatest wines". Nearly 30 years on and such acclaim speaks for itself. Robert Parker, and wine-bibles, Decanter and Wine Spectator are big fans of the winery and frequently offer Roda I their highest accolade. The estate's flagship red, Cirsion has even been awarded Spain's esteemed "Wine of the Year" trophy - four years in a row!
Uncommonly for Rioja, Roda I is made from 100% Tempranillo, producing a distinctive, black cherry and cassis-tinged character. Handpicked from premium 60-year old vines, the grapes are gently crushed and only the purest juice is retained. The wine then spends a lengthy slumber in French oak-barriques before it's bottled completely unfiltered for extra concentration.
Winemakers called 2004 "the miraculous vintage" owing to its abundant sunshine and gentle rainfall. The perfect weather produced a wealth of extremely concentrated grapes bursting with luscious fruit character! Deep crimson in colour and oozing black cherries, kirsch, spice and vanilla flavours. Appropriately rare and worth every penny!
